Club Profile
The Eastern Golf Club is one of the oldest in the country being able to trace our origins back to 1896. The club occupied a new course at Doncaster in 1924 and we relocated to our beautiful home on the Yarra River at Yering in July, 2015.
Throughout our history, the club and its land holdings have been associated with some of Victoria’s most prominent figures and intriguing events. Celebrated surgeon, Sir Thomas Naughton Fitzgerald, built the grand Doncaster home that was our former clubhouse and Dame Nellie Melba’s father, David Mitchell, built a cottage there. The Doncaster golf course hosted hundreds of WWI veterans in an annual competition for the AIF Cup and after WWII for a trophy donated by the founder of Legacy, General Sir Stanley Savige. John Gardiner established the Yarra Valley’s very first European settlement where the Club’s accommodation experience, Yering Gorge Cottages, are located.
Today’s club retains a passion and respect for our remarkable history, and we pledge to stay true to our traditions.
